You Can't Always Get What You Want "What was planned for release on the ill-fated COULD YOU WALK ON WATER LP in February 1966? After myriad hassles with the album title, the Stones' British label had refused to issue the album the band had submitted for an early March release. Much conflict, many rounds of negotiations and much brouhaha ensued. By the time a settlement was reached, the contents of the LP was different; the Stones had been in the studio in the interim and substituted a couple of the tracks. Finally, the title was changed." - Karnach & Beanson "The new Sister Morphine 2CD release "Could You Walk On Water" is essential in documenting tons of early Stones tracks all remastered with care and the magic touch of Cool Cool Hand. It's apparent from the first spin that lots of time and effort went into the dissection of the material. This stuff is now soo alive and the new twist on the proceedings leaves us with a solid array of the Stones, their power, poetry and diversity which truly came to the forefront in the turbulent 60's. CD1 includes original titles which were rejected by Decca in 1966 plus a slew of remastered Aftermath material which was available on the UK release. Who's Driving Your Plane has always been a big fave and this is the strongest mix I've ever heard either on vinyl or CD. Cd2 picks up with Big Hits including sonic gems like Honky Tonk Women. The beefed up enhancement makes the version from the Singles Collection sound pale in comparison. 19th Nervous Breakdown... oh yeah! And in stereo no less! The same can be said for The Last Time another definite keeper and again included in stereo. "I just received my order of "Voodoo Brew" and "Could You Walk On Water". WOW! "Voodoo Brew" never sounded so clear and "Could You Walk On Water" is the best sounding pre-'71 release EVER! And it isn't leaving my CD player anytime soon. Thanks for being The Greatest Band's greatest label" - CCarlson "I just received this cd on saturday. Its the new Sister morphine release. I was very excited about this cd to hear the tracks in never before stereo. Satisfaction sounds awesome and then to hear Heart of Stone to, wow! I really enjoy this cd. It also has a different version of Mother's little helper, but If I am not mistaken that version comes from the Milestone lp, released in germany back in the 70's. I have always liked that version the best. Overall this cd is fabulous it really shows how much a factor Brian Jones was to the band in the mid 60's. I guess alot people, including myself, forget how much Brian Jones really contributed to his band. I think this is the best release of studio tracks since ACETATES. This is a must if your a Brian Jones and The Rolling Stones fan." - T&L "This CD is tremendous!" - SNiemeyer "I got my copy of Sister Morphine's "Could You Walk On Water" the other day. I'm ashamed to say that I barely notice the sound quality of her releases anymore. I *expect* them to be of the highest caliber and they invariably are. This latest release is no exception :))) So my apologies to the good Sister. Anyway, the sheer quantity of stereo cuts is just way too fun. Someone mentioned dancing? Hell Yeah! I double dare anyone to try to sit still for "Looking Tired", just to name one particular favorite. The choice of cuts in the total package (3 sections) is just amazing. I found myself going through a very conscious re-appreciation of Brian's many contributions. And though Mick Taylor took things to another level in many ways, the awesome *variety* of Brian's efforts are staggering and well displayed here. Due to the alternate track/stereo-osity factor many songs feel like I'm listening to them for the first time. Cool! But I keep coming back to the mystery of that "lost album". Is this a well known episode in Stones' history? And one more thing...a warning, really. Sister Morphine's "Could You Walk On Water" is absolutely addicting. You may find yourself running a little late `cause you need to hear "just one more"... ps. Thanks Sistah...mystery, history and context...an awesome package! :)" - GAngel "JUST GOT SISTER MORPHINE'S LATEST "COULD YOU WALK ON WATER" AND I MUST SAY, WHILE A DEPARTURE FOR THE GOOD SISTER (NOT A RECENT LIVE SHOW), IT'S A BLOODY STUNNER. "CYWOW" IS OBSTENSIBLY AN UNRELEASED 1966 ALBUM - MOST OF THE MATERIAL EVENTUALLY TURNING UP ON THE UK VERSION OF "AFTERMATH." THAT IN ITSELF IS NIFTY BUT THE PACKAGE IS ROUNDED OUT WITH A SLEW OF 1966-67 ERA HITS IN WHAT'S REFERRED TO AS WIDE STEREO. THESE VERSIONS ARE STUNNING IN THEIR CLARITY AND THEIR "OOMPH" BLOWING AWAY EVEN MY ORIGINAL MASTERS VINYL VERSIONS." - KR I've been collecting (recording and reconfiguring) Rolling Stones music for thirty years and I've NEVER heard many of the versions presented on "CYWOW." Besides numerous alternate (and completely finished) tracks the '66-67 hits are a revelation. Whether they are sourced from some original tapes OR they are somehow remastered versions, they sound tremendous. They have a PUNCH that makes them a blast to hear on modern (more powerful) digital playback equipment. "Paint It Black" for example has an oomph that the London Remaster didn't capture. It's as powerful as say "Love Is Strong" recorded decades later. The detail and clarity is amazing and it doesn't sound like it was made for a sixties era phonograph - as the conventional release still does. And it's about time!" - RKelley ""Could You Walk On Water" - Thank you, Sister Morphine! I went out to the mail box today and was pleasantly surprised to find my copy of the new Sister Morphine arrival! I got through listening to both discs and have to say I am speechless! This is basiclly a two disc set where in the beginning of cd 1 is THE actual song line-up of the original unreleased Decca l.p. which eventually came out with a whole new song line-up as "Aftermath". Following these cuts is the additional Aftermath stuff and besides providing alternates and official release material of these two l.p.'s there is an amazing blend of these tracks. Unlike your even better quality out-takes boots, there is in almost every case a brilliant mastering of levels and extraction of noise making it almost impossible to tell which is the studio takes and which are alternate out-takes? As for cd2 - well, remember that elusive "Hot Rocks" import that's out of print in both Japan and Europe - you know the one some guy e-Bay blew you away with on his ridiculous bid. If you get this set, you get all of those tracks plus some on cd2 and I don't believe the folks at Decca could or would have done a better mastering job than you will hear on this set! The sound of this is incredible. I would urge anyone who's a fan of this period to get this set. It is the Stones at the peak of the Brian years and two lengthy cds it will take a long, long while to tire of if you ever.... I personally feel it is the most value-packed and generous release of any label bearing Stones material! You can't possibly go wrong with this one. If you don't already have it, you're missing out on one of the greatest Rolling Stones collections ever!!!" - PKopilak "CYWOW : This is absolutely great. Even an official release can't sound better (or perhaps on "Sad Day" from disc #1 where I find Mick's voice is too low in the mix). It makes me think of my japanese release of Metamorphosis (I've never seen another time) which sounds exceptionnaly great too, and to the 24K-gold remaster of Aqualung (an official release) on which I discovered new instruments on tracks I thought I knew by heart... Sister Morphine has really given us a GREAT record. THANK YOU & KUDOS ! Where on earth did She find the sources ? Were they unmixed ?..." - YAldrin "The cd's arrived here in Europe..... the sound is excellent!" - MScheermeijer "I got the discs today (that was quick!) here in England, and they're great!!!!" - GYoung "I wanted to thank the gang at Sister Morphine Records for my copy of Could You Walk On Water. I love this set, it is truly incredible, packaging and sound quality is excellent. Also the service was great and my package was delivered promptly, 3-4 days I believe and I live in Canada. I will be ordering more in the future now with PayPal." - CJZuk Track times [h:mm:ss.ff] Disc 1 01. 19th Nervous Breakdown [0:03:50.74] 02. Sad Day [0:03:01.12] 03.
