>> Stuart Maconie launches a searing attack ... says Clapton has no star

Gotta laugh. Say what you want about Eric Clapton--like him or not--but he's
had a 38-year professional track record that's been one of the most
successful of the second half of the 20th century ... and into the 21st.

However, Maconie does have a point. One riff does NOT make a career. And
that's exactly why Clapton's career has lasted so long!

The word "ignorant" seems appropriate.

I am notorious for writing, and spell checking, on the fly for
entertainment-related e-mails. As I glance over my own post this
morning, I notice that I mutilated Robertson's name. Apologies for
that.

Got a quick laugh out of this portion of the set list in an eBay
description of the well known '99 Yokohama show.
(sorry if someone already posted this)

this 2CD set is incredible and Eric mystifies the crowd with this
performance: one not to be missed. Taken right off the soundboard on
November 23, 1999 in Yokohama Japan. Here are the tracks:

Hi all,

Another review,

Bye,
Andre

UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT

GOD HAS BLESSED RIO - October 13rd, 2001

This time it was a standing gig in Rio, it was scheduled for 20:30 hs and
all I had to do was to arrive there soon to get a good place at the venue -
and that`s what I did of course;

This time there were popular prices, not US$ 100,00 like the Sao Paulo
concert but just US$ 18,00 , and one must admit that paying US$ 18,00 to
watch God live in person from the very first row is definitely a good deal.

I was just in front of EC`s microphone - I guess I had the best place in
the venue - Praca da Apoteose, the same one of the 90 concert. It has been
an absolutely unique experience in my 33 years of life, it was my third
time watching Clapton but the first one so close to him.

The concert again started with Reptile and went on following the same set
of the previous Sao Paulo gig, except that this time Clapton changed the
"slow blues" song, now we had "Have you ever loved a woman" instead of
"Stormy Monday". At Reptile Clapton and Phillinganes were laughing a lot,
but I couldn`t get the reason. Before the second song Clapton close his
eyes and took a deep breathe of air, he seemed extremely tired and I was
afraid he could indeed not be feeling very well, Rio is a hot city and it`s
dificult for Europeans to support high temperatures. Anyway, there was a
nice wind, it was not so hot and everything went on perfectly then;

As songs have followed each other, I realized why Clapton had to take such
a breathe of air, it`s amazing to realize the way he gives himself to the
music ! Every song he played seemed like it was the first time in his life
he was playing that, deep heart feeling, eyes wide shut and taking the
guitar to its limit - I remembered many times the "Bobfest" performance;

River of Tears and Layla - but specially the first one -were the highlights
of the night, sound was very good and it touched us deep inside. At the end
of the Concert, people were hugging each other as if a war had ended or
something like that, what a good feeling in our hearts.

Hi Friends,

This week's MP3 is one of my favorites. The track is taken from the Second
Night at Irving Plaza recording, Nov. 27, 1994 in NYC. Eric surprised the
lucky crowd of only 300 or so with an excellent version of Driftin'
(electric!). The third and final night at this venue (Nov. 28, 1994) is so
amazing that the first two nights are often forgotten. However, this is
certainly one of the best songs performed all three nights. Enjoy!

Subject: Rules of b&p
Content-Type: text/plain;

I have had some new people contact me regarding b&p's etc. so I'm passing on
these tips from a member of the ABB digest.These are his rules but are
pretty good suggestions
SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR B&P'S / TRADES:

1) Communication is the key to successful and enjoyable trades and B&P's.
Let each other know when you send or receive discs all along the process.
In addition, at the end of the trade or B&P, be sure to express your
gratitude through your own personality. A little "at a boy or girl" goes a
long way and feels real good. It's important to be cool with one another.

2) Please take the requested number of blank CD-R=B9s, packed in disc
storage
sleeves. Do not send Jewel Cases. They tend to break in transit in bubble
mailers and are more costly to send. I prefer Case Logic or Fellowes
sleeves. Both Case Logic and Fellowes sleeves are double CD capacity
sleeves. If you are using sleeve envelopes designed for a single CD, then
use one sleeve envelope per CD. Do not put multiple CD's in single
envelopes or sleeves. Some traders prefer to send an additional disc in the
event that there is a problem. This is not mandatory and is something that
should be discussed ahead of time. It can always be sent back if it is not
used, however, it will effect the cost of postage.
3) Place these inside a padded bubble mailer, addressed to you. Do not use
fiber mailers. Fiber mailers can be destructive to the CD-Writer. If you
are going to use recycled bubble mailers, be sure to use discretion as to
the condition of the mailer. After awhile, it's time to retire used
mailers. I have found that six to ten discs in double capacity Case Logic
or Fellowes sleeves send well in size "0" 6 x 9 bubble mailers. They are
relatively inexpensive, especially if you purchase them in bulk from Office
Max or another office supply company. I have also found it useful to use a
trimmed down used 6 X 9 bubble mailer as a protective sleeve placed inside
of a new 6 X 9 manila envelope as the mailer. This is a creative way to
recycle and is inexpensive if you purchase the 6 X 9 manila envelopes in
bulk. After a while of use the air will escape from the bubble mailer and
then it's time to replace.

4) Affix the mailer that is addressed to you, with appropriate return
postage, in stamps, not metered postage. Be sure to leave this mailer
unsealed.

5) Place this mailer inside an envelope one size bigger. It is not
necessary that this envelope be padded. Size 9 X12 works out to be about
perfect with size "0" 6 X 9 bubble mailers.

6) Don't forget to include a note reminding of the B&P OR what I will be
burning for you along with your e-mail and snail-mail addresses. I will be
in contact with you along the process via e-mail.

7) Seal it up and address it to:

8) When you receive the discs back , just sit back and enjoy the
show!

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR TRADES:

A) This is the list of some quality CDR media . Normally manufactured
from either of these two companies which produce quality CDR media.
Taiyo-Yuden Company and Mitsui Chemicals. Be sure to read the labels for
made in Japan.

Sony=20
TDK=20
Mitsui=20
Kodak=20
Fujifilm 80's / Made in Japan
HP 74's / Made in Japan

* Media used other than these brands should be discussed before the trade.

B) All discs should be shipped in CD sleeves like Case Logic and
Fellowes double capacity sleeves.

C) Trades should be made even up with quality media and supplies.
Consideration should be given when trading or doing a B&P with someone from
a country outside of your own. US return postage does not work going out of
countries other than the USA. Arrangements should be made ahead of time as
to an equal or fair agreement. Some traders send additional blank media to
make up for any differences.

D) When sending on a show to the recipient, either in a trade or B&P, you
should always include all information that you have on that show. If
available, you should include, date, venue, city, set list and recording set
up.

E) Cover Art is not necessary or expected, however, it's really cool when
it comes with the trade. If available, information as to where to get the
cover art is always appreciated.

F) Writing on the information area of the disc should be left up the trader
receiving the show. I personally do not mind if minimal information is
written on the inner circle of the disc. I put the information on little
pieces of paper or post-its that I include with the CD in the CD sleeve when
I am doing a B&P or trade.

G)  The bottom line................Enjoy!

POSTAL RATE INFORMATION:

I have found these rates to be correct if you are sending your trade using
Case Logic, Fellowes or paper sleeve envelopes. I personally do not like to
send more that ten discs in a mailer. this list goes to twelve discs.
Anything more than ten discs, I split up into two mailers.

1cd         $.57
2cds       $.57
3cds       $.80
4cds       $1.03
5cds       $1.03
6cds       $1.26
7cds       $1.49
8cds       $1.49
9cds       $1.72
10cds     $1.95
11cds     $1.95
12cds     $2.18
