So I immediately went there and found the piece. After I read it, I also
clicked on the link in the column to the left of the screen which read
Jimmy Page On Where The Music Comes From. This also has an interesting
mention of Mr. Clapton...........T

Dave,

Unfortunately, EC wasn't on the special. However, there were musical
performances on the broadcast which did not make it onto the CD, so the
show is worth watching. Some nice moments with Mark Knopfler, in
particular, stand out................T

The release of the entire Polydor catalogue with deluxe packaging marks yet
another chance to buy the same material again with more bells and whistles.

Given Polydor's track record, this will not be the end; I anticipate an
expanded release of 461 Ocean Blvd. bringing together all the material from
the original LP along with outtakes, some of which were released on
Crossroads and the Best Buy extra disc on the EC Blues release. If and when
this happens, it would be refreshing to have access to some tunes never
commercially available before; the studio version of "Smile," for example.

I would bet there's enough material from "No Reason to Cry" to see a double
CD with outtakes.

And there are numerous live cuts from EC's '70s tours not released on
Crossroads 2 that you have to think Polydor will try a "3" before
Duck/Atlantic/Warners ever gets on the bandwagon.

I thought jack was honest and thoughtful in that interview. Rather than a
pompus ass, just MHO.

Anyone know where the Clapton Royal Albert Hall video can be bought,
preferably on DVD? I tried checking some of the internet sales places,
like CDNOW, and can't find it. I've seen it on eBay, but I'd prefer to
buy it from a known vendor. If anyone has an idea of where to buy it,
I'd love to get it.

I have a JJ Cale show from 4-18-90, that I transferred from DAT to WAV,
then to both shn and audio. It fits on 2 discs, and is about 100 to 110
minutes. The lineage is SBD>DAT>WAV(Ego Sys U2A, Cool Edit Pro, CD
Wave)>SHN or Audio. The show opens with "After Midnight" and also
includes "Cocaine". Most of the songs, I don't know the name of, but it
sounds great, it just has one flaw I'm aware of, which is a DO in d1t03
for a second, which is one the DAT. Any help with naming the tracks
would be appreciated.

I'll make a couple of copies available for B+P, in your choice of
formats, provided the people who I seed it to offer it back to the list,
and tree or vine it.

Ok, so I guess no one is gonna buy me the 335 off ebay - BUT, just in case
somone still wants to get me a late Christmas present, Mike Eldred (Manager
of the Fender Custom Shop) mentioned this on the Fender Webboard, in a
discussion about EC's personal guitars:

-----
Well, here goes some serious "bee-hive" kickin'.....

We are taking one (1) authorized Clapton to the NAMM show that has been
painted by the same artist that painted Eric's multi-colored Strat that he
has been seen playing most recently. Todd Krause (the same builder who
builds Eric's) is building the instrument.
---------

So, who's going to NAMM?

Here are my views on 2 CD's I recently bought:

Good Rocking Tonight - The Legacy of Sun Records: EC contributes "Just
Walkin' in the Rain". I've never heard the original, but assume that
this is an interpretation in the style of the time. I don't know why the
other musicians besides EC & the Impressions (as a whole) are not named,
but recon it's the touring band that started off in early 2001. EC's
vocals are strong and he plays slide guitar throughout. The solo sounds
more Hawaiian than traditional EC slide. A worthy contribution to an
overall good collection. Item of interest: Roger Forrester (EC's former
manager) is thanked in the liner notes.

Small World Big Band by Jools Holland, His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and
Friends: EC contributes "What Would I Do Without You?". This is EC away
from his own band and partner Simon Climie. However, EC's vocals are
very powerful and are stretched to the falsetto range at times. His
guitar playing is reminiscent of his work on "Border Song" - the Elton
John/Bernie Taupin tribute from 1989. The song is well produced and does
not cloud EC's performance. EC can now also notch a "big band sound" in
his career stick. The CD, as a whole, is an up and down affair, with
some lack-lustre performances by well-known artists. For those who want
every iota of information, you will be pleased to know they name every
musician, including each violin and cello player, as well as the exact
day and date each song was recorded. (The full address of the studio is
The Pyramid Room, Helicon Mountain Studios, Westcombe Park, Greenwich,
London: UK.) Note of interest: EC & Steve Winwood were in the studio a
day apart.

My wish for EC: I would love to hear him do a whole album tribute to
Willie Dixon. There are two songs, by Sting and Steve Winwood
respectively, on Small World Big Band. EC has covered Willie Dixon in
the past - most specifically on Spoonful. To me Dixon was a prolific
writer of catchy tunes and deserves focussed recognition.

Hi Slowhanders -

With the hustle and bustle of Christmas, I didn't even give the MP3 of the
Week a first thought until Wednesday night! My apologies for this, but I'm
sure everyone was rather preoccupied with the Holiday as well. Being this
late in the week, I'll just keep Five Long Years up on the site until next
Monday morning. Hope everyone had a great Holiday and are looking forward
to a great new year.

Take care,
Josh Ritter
