Dear Lia,
The song is called Lady of Verona. It was recorded during the August
sessions and is on several bootlegs. It's a mild rocker and the lyrics are
kind of trite

mmmmmmm wonder why, assuming last tour was a farewell not money, he decided
not to say farewell to me and everybody else in New Zealand? Hows about
Australia too? I'm sure if Robert Cray (who's been to NZ atleast twice since
EC's been here or Aust at all, has EC ever come to NZ????), or even Charlie
Musselwhite (late last year) can find it economical to arrive here that EC
could too, poor exchange rate or no?

Robert Cray was $58NZ (about $30US at the time) BTW, nice tight set. Would
have payed a crapload more to see EC.

Long time fan, most of my own guitar is EC based heck he basically made me
pick the guitar up seriously. Even though I go listen to others, I return to
EC every time. Cream days or new, even at NYC when he was "hiding" he still
plays with more feel than 90% of guitarists I hear. Would have been nice to
see him out here and listen to the real deal without buying a plane ticket.
There are better guitarists than EC around technique/influence wise etc, but
only one EC, and only one reason I lurk on this digest. And no, it's not cos
I don't know how to unsubscribe!

With all due respect to everyone regardless of our points of view, I
think Eric let us all know how he felt when he
sang................................

"There ain't nothing I can do, or nothing I can say, Some folks will
criticize me.
So I'm gonna do just what I want to anyway, And don't care if you all
despise me"

Of course that's just my take on it.....your mileage may vary.

Sorry for the waste of bandwidth, but if Helmar Bendig is still subscribed
to this list, it has been about 4 months since I sent you the 12 CDRs as my
end of a trade. The last reply I had from you was on October 15. I would
very much like my 12 disks.

I used to live in my mother.

Moved out after about 9 months.

Started out on milk; later developed a taste for Cream!

I didn't get upset when I read the comments Greg Kot made about EC. I live
in Chicago but never read his page in the paper. I only know about it from
the digest, I don't read the paper. Why, because its been my experience over
the years that when ever I see a concert that I really like, Greg Kot knocks
it. His opinion is 180 degrees away from mine. If you read many of his
columns than you would know that he only says good things about very new
alternative music. This guy sucks the ding dong, I have zero respect for him
of his partner at the other paper Jim De'suckjaw. They both think that any
artist not on the cutting edge of newness is washed up. The show on the
radio you mention is on a weeknight on WXRT, the best station in Chicago for
30 years now. Its the only station I listen to, but I turn it off when these
bozos are on.
A friend told me that I should ease up on these guys because if they said
all good stuff about an artist than they would be fans and not critics. Well
I know my music and I don't need some moron to tell me what is good, who is
washed up. I think Greg Kot is way past his prime and the columns he has
written in the last few years don't stack up to the great work he did in the
60's.

Hi Slowhand-digest,

This is my first-time posting so excuse my use of the bandwidth....
Oscar Wilde, the British essayist and sometime critic (I know, I know, he
was Irish) once said that a true critic can only criticize if his
abilities are as good, if not better, in his field than the person that
he / she is criticizing (I'm paraphrasing as my somewhat addled-brain is
harking back into the memory bank). That being the case, 99% of critics
don't have a leg to stand on when they talk about the artist in
disparaging terms. Let's see the critic get up on stage and put on a
good show. Critics get paid to criticize, whether it adequately
addresses the issue of what is being reviewed is beside the point. If a
critic wants to make a name for himself / herself often times they'll
puposely downgrade a show - even if it was really good - just so that
people who read the reveiw will remember the critic. A sad state of
affairs but never-the-less as true today as! ! it was in Oscar Wilde's
time around 1890 - 1900. My question has always been: did you like the
show? If so, then praise it. If not, pray tell, what was it about the
show that you didn't like. But don't go around trying to sway people's
judgment or artistic merit based on your own limited viewpoint. What one
person doesn't like may be the exact thing that somebody else raves
about.

                                                        - Jess :-D
