Regarding some of the freebees that are being given away on this list. It
is a nice jesture to offer this stuff up to the first few folks that
respond, but why not offer these items up in the form of a trade tree? I'd
be willing to put together such a tree. I've never put one together, but
would love to make that contribution if we can spread some of these goodies
around. Such as the Budokan VCD offer.
Any thoughts?
John

Martin wrote: "there is an EC tribute act (not something I have heard of
very often) playing at the Royal Festival Hall this Saturday night. They
are called "After Midnight". Anybody ever seen these guys? Is it worth going?"

"After Midnight", also known as "Classic Clapton", performed at the
pre-concert gathering (Feb 3 2001) at the Half-Moon, Putney, London
organized by the "Where's Eric?" staff. (Afterward, most of the attendees
headed to the Royal Albert Hall for the first show of the Reptile
tour.) While I was initially skeptical about the concept of a Clapton
tribute band, I was really impressed by the show. I remember thinking to
myself "These guys are really brave to play to this tough audience of
die-hard Clapton fans." They closed their set with a respectable "Layla."
Encore was "Tulsa Time." The lead singer/guitarist, Mike Hall, is a
dead-ringer for EC (circa mid-80's) and is a terrific
performer. Evidently, he founded the band in 1985, so he's been doing
this a while. Their standard set list includes all the EC crowd-pleasers
(Wonderful Tonight, Sheriff, Sunshine, White Room, Cocaine, Badge
etc.) You can check out more details on the band's website
at http://www.after-midnight.freeserve.co.uk/

Anyway, I did not get a chance to chat with Mike Hall at the pub party. I
seem to recall that the band had to rush to another gig. But I did send
him an email to let him know that I enjoyed his show. Here is part of
Mike's response: "Thanks for your nice comments. You're right, it was a
tough audience. We thought we'd died a death at the time. However, it was
video'd, and the tape looks pretty good. Fortunately, most of the audiences
we play to are much more enthusiastic."

"After Midnight" plays shows throughout the UK, not just
London. Undoubtedly, there are lots of folks who enjoy "Nothin' but the
oldies."
