Hey gang,

The whole issue of Clapton playing outside arenas has been covered well
for the most part. The main problem with playing outside shows is, of course,
rain and other weather conditions. As a promoter, the risk of canceling a
show due to rain is a huge problem. As I'm sure you know, it often takes
severe illness by the main artist to cancel a show. Clapton himself has
testified that he has gone on stage at "death's door" with the flu or other
illnesses.
When an artist decides to play outside, they have to always prepare for
a rain cancellation. Some may look at Pink Floyd's Knebworth appearance and
claim that artists "can and will play in the rain." As a touring vet, let me
tell you that cloudy skys can often cancel outside shows.
I still believe selection of venue comes down to seating capacity. If
more tickets can be sold in an outside arena, it may be worth taking the
weather risk. If the audience size between and inside and outside arena is
similar, then the inside venue will usually get it.

       Bill

I gotta laugh, it reminded me of when Jerry Garcia got married the last
time. The location was kept a big secret. People like other members of
the band and Bob Dylan were brought in by helicopter. After the
wedding, a couple of weeks, Jerry was being interviewed and was asked
"Why was the wedding's location kept so secret and isolated?" Jerry
said "Would you want 10,000 Deadheads at your wedding?" BTW, in about
1970 Jerry was asked who he thought the best guitarist in rock was. He
answered "Clapton".

I'm going to mutate my offer to make copies of the Farewell box.

If you are a UK based fan with nothing really to trade, email me and I'll
send copies to the first 3 to reply, perhaps along with other goodies to
help you kick start your collection. As per normal, if you don't get a reply
assume you didn't make the final cut.

If you are a trader, get in touch and we can trade for the 3CDs. I know this
isn't in the spirit of the weeding but I'm offering freebies to those who
need them most and besides, if I'm trading It'll keep up my interest in
burning copy after copy after copy etc... ;o)

I can not believe you would even ask this of people who enjoy this man's
music so much. My suggestion is; seek professional help, they can get the
voices to stop for you, and a little prozac wouldn't hurt either. We would
hate to see you become associated with Mr. Chapman, but don't worry. There
is a cure.

Okay, you're right, it was a very cruel response, and for this I apologize.
Sincerely. If his music has changed my life - it was so long ago that I do
not remember the change, as I have been a fan, and touched by his musical
statements, since 1967.
Obviously, you have not put much thought into your statements, for these
are, indeed, very similar to those of Mark David Chapmans. After all, he
thought/thinks he is the only person who saw John Lennon and his music in
just that light.
1.) Yes, just about everything in his music has a touch that is very
personal to almost everybody on the list, that is why we are fans.
2.) Yes, I have been touched by his music. So much so, that at times as I
listened and he played, it built steadily to such a fine level when he
finally reached that "One Single Note" it brought me to tears. This
happening not often, at a live performance, and usually during some of the
most troubling times of my life. To me, this is why music is considered an
Art. Art being that which stirs an emotion. The emotion can be very
different and personal to all.
3.) If you were/are his "PenPal" then be happy with that. I'm sure that if
he wishes to meet you he will. Know that there is a good chance that
somebody on this list knows the man personally, or that it is looked at on a
regular basis by someone who does. I'm sure that there are addresses
through his label or management people for fans to write to him.
4.) If his music is as you say it is with you, then protect that and respect
it. He has given you so much, appreciate it for what it is.
5.) Do not think that you are the only person who has felt the way you feel.
And, investigate other avenues to get your message to him. This question has
crossed this list many times and my response to you was meant to be candid,
for I have seen them to be much worse.

Someone at the Chicago Sun-Times must be an EC fan. Last Friday, the
"Casual Friday" column in the business section featured a recent photo
of EC, reportedly taken in Los Angeles two weeks ago. Needless to say, he
was dressed in a casual "uniform" of khaki pants and sweatshirt with rolled
up sleeves. He appeared to be putting money in a parking meter, or
assisting an older man who was having trouble with the meter. EC carries
his 57 years well - he is looking good.

Anyway, the caption with the photo read as follows: "He may be a guitar
god, but even Eric Clapton has to feed the meter, as he does here on Rodeo
Drive last week in Beverly Hills. We don't know who the guy on the right
is, but it doesn't look like Jimmy Page."

Cute.
Sandy

Hi all,

I've got 4 copies of the Budokan Video CD to give away.
If there are more than four entries when I next check the mail, I'll do
a random drawing. Following Eddy's (I think) idea to give a fair chance
to those who're not online all the time.
European's only, please!

Philip
