It is not patronizing and it has nothing to do with
snobbery. There is absolutely no legitmate reason
that any fan needs EC's street address. Not even to
send a letter. Most celebs have their mail screened
and for very good reasons. It's not only about
privacy but also for security reasons and you don't
have to look very far to find celeb stalkers (Meg
Ryan, Liz Hurley, etc.) Do you know the person you
are chatting with on the internet? Do you know
everyone who reads this or other lists? As much as I
would love to meet EC, his privacy and security are
far more important to me.

Ladies and Gents,

I emplore you!

The message below is barely coherent, and the writer
even seems to be name-dropping a bit. Bill Ward???
I'm almost in tears laughing (really).

It's clear that some members are depriving themselves
of sleep over some dopey post from last march. In the
interest of my 6MB yahoo mailbox, can we please put
this to bed.

EC Lives at:

1 Surrey Boulevard
Surrey, U.K.

Give him my best and tell him I'll be by for tea later
in the week.

Said with love,

This is one of the most unbelievable posts I have ever
seen. It sounds
like one of my ex GF's kids, and their sense of
entitlment grossly
inflated. No celebrity of any kind, even Rush
Limbaugh or Walter
Cronkite have their address published. People are
entitled to a little
privacy, and they're entitled to less if they pursue a
life course that
includes fame. I have known Bill Ward, original and
again the drummer
for Black Sabbath, since about 1986. I've hardly seen
him in the last
5
or 6 years, as a matter of fact I only saw him once,
in a social
situation. Even when the guy was really down and out,
as he was, first
I went to get a Black Sabbath record to see if his
name or picture was
on it, and it was, I never asked if I could hang at
his place. When I
saw him last we spoke about his heart attack, as he
knew I am a RN, and
his buying a home in a local city. I didn't ask if I
could send him a
christmas card or anything. Please don't ask me what
he's like, I
won't
discuss it.

I strongly disagree with people in general knowing
where people like
Clapton or McCartney live. If you've got someting
you'd like to get to
McCartney, write to his agent. Paul McCartney's
address is very secret
I'm sure, and one of the reasons is he doesn't want or
need people
telling him what he needs. He pays people to get what
he wants or
needs. If you have some great video of Perkins, I'm
sure there are
better ways to get it to him, than to discuss it on a
Clapton list.

Earlier this week I wrote to an agent of a man who was
the leader, so
to
speak of one of my favorite bands in the early 70's.
I saw this band
more than any band in theyre time. I had a couple of
things to ask
him,
and a few stories to share, as we are both from the
same little
villiage
in NY.
I emailed his agent, she forwarded the e-mail to him,
he wrote back to
me, and said it was ok to record and trade and spread
his music as long
as no one made any money. I promised that would be
the way it was. I
then asked if he had any tapes from shows he did, back
when he was kind
of big-time, and would he mind my bold request. At
this time, a tape
should be on it's way to me, to transfer to CD, and
hopefully more will
follow. All from writing to an agent one morning.
One of my favorite
guitarists is very public, because he has a ranch
where he has weekend
music seminars
usuallu about playing guitar. That is Jorma Kaukonen
of Jefferson
Airplane and Hot Tuna, along with Jack Cassidy.
There's not many like
him. I bet you still can't get Chuck Berry's address,
and he's not in
the spotlight anywhere near as much as McCartney or
Clapton.

Keith

Pat,
For me, this discussion was reeeally ended, but since you've called me back,
here I am:-)

First of all we can take two different paths in this discussion. To keep in
the groupie level, personalizing it towards EC, or talk in a wider level,
speaking about celebrities privacy. Carl, the origin of everything wrote me
and told me he's only 17 yrs old. Of course I didn't knew that, and now I
consider it naiveness of his, only. But you're not 17 and has more life
experience then him. I'm a professional guitar player who also learned A LOT
with Eric, still my number one. I love the guy, I'm a big fan like you,
Carlo, and thousands around the globe, who really would like to meet him
someday and thank for his music. But in a general view, what he is? He's a
musician like me (just in theory, I'll never be any close to him
musically!lol) who deserves some peace and privacy in his spare time, like a
lawyer, an architect, a surgeon, it doesn't matter how good or respected he
or she is professionally.
Eric Clapton is probably one of the shyest people in show business,
reserved, even with all those love affairs and boozes of the past, you can't
see too many interviews, he's not in the jet-set all the time like Jagger or
Rod Stewart, he's a normal guy with a great gift, that's what he told in
some interview I read.

I think he gave us enough, we don't need his privacy too. Maybe he'd been
not stabbed or something exactly because he doesn't want to be in the
spotlight off-stage. For Lennon, it was impossible, since he WANTED to be a
public person, to fight for political causes, etc. But the risk exists even
for Eric, if not, why to keep security staff?

How many more people besides you and Carlo would be knocking at his door
tomorow if his address was printed by now? How can you presume that all of
them are just regular fans as you both. Among, let's say 10.000 fans, what
would be the possibility of having at least one who is not completely sane?
That's the reason why anyone who discover Eric's personal address must keep
the big mouth shut.

Let me tell something: I don't like when anyone I didn't know gets my phone
number and call me to ask or sell something, it really bothers me when
someone get my e-mail address and writes me offering something I don't need;
It's not because I don't like advertising, it's because there's a right
place and time for that. I can't imagine the living hell it could be if I
had lots of people in my door everyday for whatever reason. Try to put
yourself in his situation. Maybe it's me being snob...Paranoid? Maybe, who
knows? Over-reacting, over-protective to the ones I love, definitely
something I do sometimes, but it does not put anyone I like in any dangerous
situation, and a negligent and selfish position like the one you're taking
definitely does.

My final word, if you want to say something to Eric, write to Ronnie Lippin,
his manager. If he wants to read and answer fan's letters, he'll do that in
the right time for HIM, not for you. Maybe he doesn't want anymore, maybe he
doesn't have time for that. Give him this choice, afterwards it's something
you can give him after everything he gave you.

Peace, Fabio

Subject: Contacting EC personally

Hi all,

I really see nothing wrong on a person willing to contact EC, Mr Bush or The
Pope, considering that he or she does have some valuable information to say.

On September last year I talked to a reporter of the Brazilian neswpaper "O
GLOBO", at that time it was still some weeks for the EC gig. The reporter
told me how easy it was :

He had the idea - by himself - to try an interview. He called EC's agency in
England (the telephone # is public known, I guess it's Reprise's) and said :
"My name is XXXX, I am a reporter of the Brazilain newspaper XXX and I would
like to make a phone interview with the guitar player EC".

He was asked to send his e-mail, after a few hours he received a message
stating some usual rules he should respect : no personal questions, just 10
minutes, and the usual bla bla bla. He replied and wrote : "I agree", and
sent his phone #.

On the following day, the phone rang at his office, another person hooked it
up and said : "Hey, it's for you, hurry up cause it's from a foreign
country, as the person is speaking in English";

When he got up the phone, he was a bit surprised as he expected some more
steps to follow, but it was the already the real deal: "Hi, it's Eric
Clapton, let's go on with the interview";

Easy, right ? But of course it's necessary to mention that the reporter
contacted the agency and stated CLEARLY what he wanted to do.

Cheers,

Andre
