I agree that sending out a boot to the first five people to reply by
E-mail and who will do the same isn't the best method, but for different
reasons. However, I have to say first that I don't think that this cheating
thing you were talking about is a real problem here on the Digest, as my
experience so far is that most Digesters are generous people. Usually you
can find someone here on the Digest who would be willing to help out.

Now, as for the two reasons that I'm not fond of the "first 5" method.
I get the SD both at work and on my Hotmail account - and I also signed up
on my Yahoo account back when Hotmail was having so many problems a while
back (I found that they took turns going down and I haven't gotten around to
un-subbing there yet.) But the point is that the Digest arrives at each of
the three places I get it at different times. I've never understood that -
I'm assuming that its sent to everyone at the same time. But inevitably my
Yahoo address is the last one to get the Digest.
Maybe there are some digesters out there who have been having that
problem, and if so, not everyone will receive notification of the offer at
the same time. By extention, it would also apply to the return E-mail. If
two people each sent an E-mail to someone offering a boot and they both
clicked on "send" at the same time, it might arrive at that E-mail box at
different times. I realize that over time this would be less of a problem,
as more and more people get they're copy and offer it, there would be more
supply and and less demand.

As for the second reason - I never tried for Budokan CD, as I figured
that, really, I didn't qualify, as I don't have the ability to burn copies.
There have to be others with that problem - I can't beleive that I'm the
last person left on the list that can't burn CD's (never mind VCD's!!)
However, thankfully, Israq thought of us and offered copies to those of us
who don't have the ability to pass it on, so I got my copy from her. And
what a great concert CD it is!!

THANK YOU, ISHRAQ!!!

Loraine

As you have probably read here (and many other places), "The Last Waltz"
will be re-issued as a four-CD boxset this week, featuring additional
tracks and outtakes, including EC's "All our Past Times."

The concert film will also be re-released shortly. "The Last Waltz"
features The Band, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Emmylou
Harris, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Robbie Robertson, the Staples, Muddy
Waters, Ronnie Wood, Neil Young and Martin Scorsese. United Artists
presents a concert documentary directed by Martin Scorsese. Running time:
117 minutes. Rated PG.

Here is a link to an insightful review by film-critic Roger Ebert:
"The Last Waltz" has inexplicably been called the greatest rock documentary
of all time. Certainly that would be "Woodstock," which heralds the
beginning of the era which The Band gathered to bury."

Happy reading.

Hi SD'ers

Going out on a limb here to tell you I got the NYE 2001 show today and will do a b&p for the first 5. Mainly due to costs I will choose only 2 others from Europe. But if you wish to acquire this show you MUST be prepared to offer it up on the SD to 5 others. And I hope you will follow my instructions. I will take the first 5 then I will post their email addresses on the SD. I want this show out there to stop the friggin bootleggin of this show that was for a good cause. I've thought long and hard about it and have decided to due my part. No trades, catch me in a good mood I will do more (but I'm not in a good mood right now in the moment so it's 5 ;) It just makes me sick that these so-called Clapton fans will hold a show to sell to a booter for profit.

I know that most of the folks I trade with feel the same way. So........

Sorry about the rant and I may be way out of line but life's a *#@&.

So remember first 5 in the US and 1 in Europe and it will be the folks I have traded with in the past.

Sorry but my post was a little confusing.
It's first 5 in US and 2 in Europe or anywhere overseas.

I received this box set a while ago and still haven't found 5 slowhanders
from Australia/NZ who want a copy. First in, best dressed (as they say).
Normal conditions apply (burn it for 5 others etc..)

Happy to spend my ANZAC day public holiday burning it for you if you drop me
a line. If you dont hear from me, bad luck.

If you're not from Australia/NZ but still interested I'm willing to trade -
just send me a list.

Biggest mistake EC has made?

Lets see what first pops in my head:

* not childproofing ones home/homes
* falling in to chronic substance abuse
* not practicing safe sex

But that is all his PERSONAL business, and not mine.

I think the nature of the question was aimed more at Eric as a performing
musician or artist.

Which brings me to this lyric by Bob Dylan:

Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake,
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break.
In the fury of the moment I can see the Master's hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand.

I don't feel that any great artist develops to his true potential if he on
the watch for what some would call as 'mistakes'.

How many chords do you have to strumm to get the riff right? Sometimes the
great art comes from taking the pieces of what is around you (your life)
and placing it in a context that makes sense to you and appeals to those
around you.

Has the artwork for the Birthday Box set been posted anywhere yet?
Does anyone have a link to it? Thanks!
