Usual rules - email me with your full postal address.
I'll pick five winners at random at the weekend. If
you don't hear from me, you didn't make it this time.

OK I have the Birthday box set.

I'll provide copies to five Slowhanders who are the first ones to appear in
my mail box. I will not be able to make them until next weekend
however.....

I sort by the time they arrive on my end so I do not care if you fake the
time that you sent it on your end..... Dumb idea anyway. I would think that
in a group like this honestly would be a priority. The suggestion that some
one could do that or even spreading the directions and idea is
irresponsible.

I will send copies to people who can not make copies for b&p so do not feel
left out.

If you don't hear from me, you didn't make the list.

Just curious about the post I snipped some off of, if the opening riff
of Layla came in second as best riff of all time, what came in first?
My Allman Brothers oriented brain can only think of the opening to "One
Way Out", the Allman's cover of an Elmore James song, as the bst riff,
certainly one of rocks most identifiable riffs.

Also in regard to the other post with the part of the RS Clapton
interview, last year there was a period of time before Warren Haynes
went back into the ABB, where Clapton's tour schedule ended, and the ABB
tour schedule started. I was really hoping to see Clapton take that
slot in the ABB, but alas, they just had to post the rest of Claptons
tour. Still there was about 3 weeks Clapton could have played with the
ABB, but it would have been in Dickey Betts slot, not Duanne's. Still,
it would have been amazing to see 2 of musics most well known recovering
smack addicts playing together, so many years later, Eric and Gregg that
is.

Ok, enough babbling.......

Heard on the radio today that there is a survey sponsored
by Ibanez guitars
and Peavey amps, listing the most overrated guitar
players, and the best
riffs of all time. EC topped the list as most overrated
player - but the
opening riff to Layla came in as second best riff of all
time. Go figure!

I am seeking two additional tickets to this sold-out concert (J.J. Cale in
Charlotte, NC on Saturday, April 27 at the Visulite Theater).

Is there anyone who might be able to sell me one or two?

Thank you very much. (I apologize for this slightly off-topic post.)

I wanted to commend Pat on the way he is handling the Woking 12/31/01 show. I've always said (even to Pat) that the music should be shared and not hoarded. Does it really make someone feel better to think, "hey, I've got it and you don't" or does it feel better to share the music and be able to say "man, what did you think of Eric's riff on Old Love"???? Anyway, way to go Pat (and everyone else involved with distributing the show and spoiling the hoarders' misguided egos). There are those out there with very extensive EC boot libraries that DO share, and share generously. You know who you are so I won't mention you here individually ;-)

Alright, I'm confused (and no wise-cracks -- and you know who I'm talking about! )
I just downloaded the artwork for the Bday Box Set from Markie's Geetarz site. First question... if the set is titled "Farewell to the World", why is it being referred to as the
Birthday Box?
And also, in comparing the track listings on the cover to the list that Scott posted here the other day, I get even more confused.
On the artwork on CD1, Stormy Monday is listed as being from Budokan Dec. 4, but on Scott's list it's Buenos Aires Oct. 6.
On the artwork on CD 2, Superman Inside and HYELAW are listed as being from Copenhagen (which were held on March 28-29), but on Scott's list these songs are listed from Oslo on April 1.
Also on CD2, White Room is listed as Bercy (which was March 20-21) but on Scott's list it's Toulouse Feb. 26.
Also on CD2, I Want A Little Girl is listed as Budokan Dec. 4, but Scott has it as Buenos Aires Oct. 6.
On CD3, Will It Go Round In Circles is listed as Chicago July 25 (which when this song was played)... not as Chicago July 24 as on Scott's list.
Which of the above dates/cities are the correct ones?
I know I'm being super picky... but when it comes to cover art, I like the info to be PERFECT.
I'll have to house this set in a quad-CD jewel case, so I'll be making up a new cover that will show the title on the double spines. I'm trying to keep it to as close to the original artwork as possible. If there's interest in this "updated" cover art, perhaps I could ask Markie to put it on Geetarz along with the original art?
Thanks to Scott for putting this all together! Great idea!

Not to be a bad sport about any of this, but someone wrote that EC was
voted the most overrated guitarist by some such poll but that the Layla
riff opening the song was voted tops. Sorry, but EC did not write the
riff: the "guest" on the album, Duane Allman did. Layla originally was
to sound much like the unplugged version, but Duane came in, suggested
speeding it up, and wrote the famous riff, thus giving the song the drive
and feel that it eventually had. Not to put down Eric, because he did
write the melody and the lyrics (Jim Gordon, the D&D drummer composed the
piano coda). I say all this to say that while some feel EC is
overrated, I don't think that it is fair to say that he is the "most"
overrated. And, that Duane Allman helped make the Layla album truly what
it was, a masterpiece. The touring band minus Allman was very good,
great in fact (I have the boxed set), but without a 2nd guitar it was not
the same. The Gibson/Fender contrast with 2 masters was truly amazing
in the annals of rock guitar history.
